Sadler Set to Blister into Hot-Lanta
UP TO DATE WITH SADLER: Elliott Sadler finished sixth in the UAW-Daimler Chrysler 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and climbed from eighth to third in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup point standings. It marked his second top-10 finish in 2004. This is Sadler's highest points ranking after three races of a season. He ranked 27th in the point standings at this point of the season one year ago. Sadler has competed in 10 races at Atlanta and has scored only one top-10 finish. His best Atlanta finish (sixth) occurred in this race one year ago. He finished 17th there last fall.
QUOTING M&M'S DRIVER ELLIOTT SADLER:
"We had an awesome run in Las Vegas last week and this team really clicked. Our pit stops were fast, our car was hooked up and we managed to stay out of any kind of trouble. That was my best finish at Vegas and we are just looking forward to the next few races.
"I've always liked racing at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Last year we qualified and raced well and this year with the way that our chassis look we have a good shot at a win or at least a top five. If we stay consistent we will be in position to run for the championship but we are going to have to beat the best of the best week in and week out. I think if we compete like we have been all year long we will stay front in points.
"With the spoiler changes we are going to see the field spread out as far as handling goes. The margin of error is going to be bigger and so drivers and teams need to be more on their game. The tire situation is definitely interesting. Goodyear has given the teams a challenge with the new tire configuration - the tires wear out in about 30 laps. It's going to be unusual this year to see many two-tire stops."
QUOTING M&M'S CREW CHIEF TODD PARROTT:
"We are taking the same car to Atlanta that we raced last weekend in Las Vegas to Atlanta - the only thing we are going to change is the paint scheme - from black and white to the new bold colors of M&M'S. It was a brand new car last week and the #38 proved herself to be quite a hot rod in Las Vegas. We should be good right off of the truck."
QUOTING M&M'S SPOTTER BRETT GRIFFIN:
"We race at a lot of tracks where it is easy to lose perspective on how fast these guys actually drive around the race track. At Atlanta you can tell the drivers are 'hauling the mail' so I try to make sure I stay focused for 500 miles to help keep Elliott safe. NASCAR reminds us constantly that spotters are in place for safety purposes. Hopefully we will have a good run this weekend."
