Lally Ready for Fontana Return
Mooresville, NC (March 23, 2011) – TRG Motorsports driver Andy Lally prepares to take the No. 71 Eco-Fuel Saver entry out west for the running of the Auto Club 400 at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California.
Lally will be making his second career Fontana start this weekend. His appearance last fall was one of seven Sprint Cup races he ran in 2010.
Lally said, “I was happy to get out of Bristol with a relatively clean car. Now I’m really looking forward to going to a track that I’ve actually raced at before. I learned a lot racing at Fontana last season and am ready to go back.”
He continued, “Fontana is a very interesting track. Each race there is different. Guys have won from the front; guys have won from the back. We usually only average about 8 cautions there, which makes for some long green flag runs. It’s a track that’s been known to be tough on drivers and equipment, so I’m looking to take care of my stuff and come home with a solid finish.”
Team owner Kevin Buckler said, “I was happy with Andy’s performance at Bristol. He kept the car clean and put a lot of laps under his belt for the experience he needed. For a rookie in his situation, the most important thing he can do is keep the car clean, make laps, and gain seat time on one of the most difficult tracks on the circuit. We used one of our oldest cars and expected it to have it get wrecked but it didn’t happen. He impressed me and I think he impressed a lot of other people too with his heads up driving. I’m excited to see what he can do this weekend as he makes a return to Fontana where he raced for us last fall---the first track he has ever returned to and we have a good car under him.”
Long-time member of the TRG leadership team Paul Clapprood will be stepping in as Andy’s crew chief this weekend. “Paul is a great guy. He has been such an asset to us in the shop and at the racetrack. He did a great job as crew chief last year, and I am happy to have him back on the pit box calling the race for us,” said Buckler.
