Ambrose to leave NASCAR after 2014?

There have been rumblings that Marcos Ambrose, who has won six races between the Sprint Cup and Nationwide series, may be going back home to Australia in 2015.

Does he want to go home? That’s all up to him.

Richard Petty on Ambrose rumors

These rumors were further fueled by his car owner Richard Petty, who when confronted with questions regarding Ambrose's future, said “You’ll have to ask him. It’s basically going to be a decision of what is he going to do. Does he want to run all the races? Part of the races? Does he want to go home? That’s all up to him.” 

Ambrose dodged the same questions, saying only that he wants to help RPM be where they want to be and left it at that. His contract with Petty expires at the end of this season.

Earlier this year, there were reports that legendary car owner Roger Penske was looking to expand his empire and form a team in the thriving V8 Supercars series, saying in April, “We’re potentially looking at Australia." The Penske deal and Ambrose rumors have not been officially linked however.

Marcos Ambrose is a two-time V8 Supercar champion, but a lot has changed since he left the sport in 2005 including the cars, some of the tracks, the rules, and even the ownership of the team he once drove for.

Going for win number three

The Aussie goes into Watkins Glen this weekend as the favorite and a victory would practically lock him into the Chase. The No. 9 team tested there recently and Ambrose said after the test, "It was good for us to go there and at least get some edge over the rest of the field."

When asked about being the favorite this weekend, Marcos was cautiously optimistic after what transpired last year, saying "You can't go into these things thinking that you're going to win because it never works out that way. Last year we got ourselves into trouble with a three-stop straegy; this year we're going to do something different."
