Ambrose looks to continue consistency at mile-and-a-half tracks

"We are looking forward to Kansas and having Mac Tools on board with us

CONCORD, N.C. (October 1, 2013) - Marcos Ambrose and the No. 9 Ford team have shown consistency at the mile-and-a-half tracks since this spring. The team posted top-15 finishes in five out of the six mile-and-a-half events since the spring, including two top-10 finishes. Ambrose hopes the Mac Tools Ford will continue that consistency on Sunday at Kansas Speedway.

Ambrose has eight starts at Kansas where he has one top-10 and two top-15 finishes. He posted his track-best finish of ninth with the No. 9 team in the fall of 2011. Crew Chief Drew Blickensderfer has 10 NASCAR starts at the track, including six in the Sprint Cup Series. He captured the Nationwide pole in 2007 with Matt Kenseth behind the wheel. That same race, he posted his best finish of second at the 1.5-mile track.

Comments from Mac Tools Ford Fusion Driver Marcos Ambrose:

"We are looking forward to Kansas and having Mac Tools on board with us. This will be their third of four races with us this year, and the car always looks great. We feel pretty good about going to Kansas. We had a pretty good car at Chicago at the end of the race, and Kansas is similar. We'll have all day Thursday to test on a new tire. That's going to be critical. It's a day like that when you really look at all your teammates and everyone at Ford Racing for as much help as possible. We all work together and figure out how the car is reacting to the new tire, the tires traits and so on. So, Thursday will be a busy day.

"The rest of the weekend will be the same. We want to work on qualifying well on Friday. We have had times this season where we've been really fast in qualifying (Ambrose has qualified in the top-10 seven times this season), but it's been a little while since we've been up there. We're working hard on that. Starting well will always help your chances of running up front on Sunday. Everyone on our team is looking at what we need to do be faster on Friday.

"Kansas is a good track that I like. It's fast; it's a momentum track and one that we should be able to run well at. Drew is strong at the mile-and-half tracks, and we have been close at them this year. Atlanta and Chicago were the last two races where we were in the top-15 at the end. We just need to find a little more, and we can be in the top-five and compete for the win at the end. We have the red and white Mac Tools scheme with us. Hopefully, that will bring us the fortune we need to race for the win on Sunday."

Comments from Crew Chief Drew Blickensderfer on Kansas:

"Our team has been really good at the intermediate tracks. I'm looking forward to having the test on Thursday. We will be able to try some new things out that we normally don't have time to try on any given weekend. Hopefully, we will hit on something that will carry us from our 13th-place average at mile-and-a-halfs since this spring to a top-five or even a win."

Chassis History:

The No. 9 team will bring chassis No. 840 this weekend. The team raced this chassis to a sixth-place finish at Michigan International Speedway in August.
