Riggs 25th in NASCAR Sprint Showdown
Concord, N.C. (May 18, 2009) -- The NASCAR Sprint Showdown on Saturday night was an all or nothing racing event. With points not being a factor and only the top-two finishers transferring into the All-Star race.
Scott Riggs and the Tommy Baldwin-led crew did everything they could to get one of those top two spots. Unfortunately, an ill-handling race car coupled with a flat right rear tire left them with a 25th-place finish in Saturday night's 40 lap event.
Riggs started the Showdown in the third position but fell back to 20th at the conclusion of the first 20-lap segment. During the first 20-laps Riggs brought the No. 36 Toyota into the pits several times to hopefully resolve the handling issues on the red and white machine.
Just when they thought the handling issues might be resolved, Riggs was forced to pit road with a right rear flat. The TBR team was never able to overcome the misfortune and crossed the finish line 25th.
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series racing continues at Lowe's Motor Speedway next weekend for the annual Coca-Cola 600. Flag-to-flag coverage of the longest race on the 2009 circuit will take the green flag Sunday, May 24 beginning at 5 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The race will be televised live on FOX and broadcast on the Performance Racing Network and Sirius XM Satellite Radio. Qualifying for the 12th points-paying race on the 2009 schedule will be telecast live on SPEED Thursday, May 21 beginning at 7 p.m. EDT.
SCOTT RIGGS QUOTE:
"The No. 36 machine was just a little off. However, I think we learned a lot for the Coca-Cola 600 next weekend. I think we learned what we need to work on during practice next week and I think we have a chance to compete for the top 20."
