SCOTT RIGGS (No. 10 Valvoline/Stanley Tools/ Dodge Charger) -- Open Winner
"It's better that we got a chance to go to the next race. That's what we were shooting for. I'm real proud of all the guys at Evernham Motorsports. The engines shop, it was a great engine tonight. All the guys on this Valvoline/Stanley Tools Dodge have been making marks and getting better, not a lot of notice yet because we're still a new team and making mistakes here and there.
We're getting better and this is good for us. It's a good night to come out and make a sprint race out of it. We pretty much made qualifying laps for 30 laps straight. The car was good right off the bat, and we didn't do anything to mess it up. We're going to make it a little better for the next race. We're going to make some adjustments, approved adjustments."
CASEY MEARS (No. 42 Texaco/Havoline Dodge Charger)
"I was really loose in qualifying, and it was loose tonight. I wish we could have got a few more laps tonight. I think it was starting to come in better, but we were really, really loose. The cars tighten up as you go. At the same time, other than at the test, we haven't driven these cars at this time of night. I was looser at night than I expected. It's disappointing, but fortunately this isn't a points' race. It would have been nice to have a shot at that million. I probably should have taken it a little easier.
"I think the 600 is going to be a survival race. There is no grip out there. I've never driven anything like this before. It's just ice. It has a little bit of grip and then nothing and there's not much warning. Everybody is dealing with the same thing. I thought I was taking it easy tonight, and I was just too loose. We definitely learned something from it as far as how we should start next week, so we'll just go from there.
"At least I mowed the grass. Fortunately I didn't hit the wall hard again. I was a little worried about once you knock off the wall like that you come back and hit the outside wall hard again. I stayed away from it and thought I'd be able to fire it up and get it going again, but the tires are so slick and there is no grip so when I got sideways and got in the grass I think I over revved the engine and hurt it, too."
