Adverse weather delayed opening day of on-track action at The Glen
Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series practice got the green flag for each of their sessions with the sun coming on the Watkins Glen road course.

Watkins Glen, N. Y. – Due to adverse weather and wet track conditions, NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series practice got underway approximately four hours late on Friday, but when it commenced, the action was fast and furious. Also, the sun appeared once the practice sessions started.
Martin Truex Jr. led the 43-car Sprint Cup field in the opening round of practice with a speed of 127.238 miles per hour around the 2.45-mile road course. He was trailed by twice Glen winner Marcos Ambrose at 125.220 mph and Carl Edwards a 125.206.
In the early evening session, Edwards moved to the front with a speed of 128.397 mph. Michael McDowell shocked the establishment with the second fastest speed at 127.302 mph while driving the Dockside Logistics Ford. Clint Bowyer timed third at 127.232.
On the Nationwide Series side, Sam Hornish Jr. did it up fast with teammate Brad Keslowski nestled in close behind him. Hornish turned the course at a speed of 122.485 miles per hour and Keselowski was a tick slower at 122.291 mph.
Regan Smith was third fastest at121.860 mph.
Forty Nationwide cars are entered in the Zippo 200.
Qualifying for Sprint Cup will begin at 11:40 a.m. and the Nationwide Series qualifies at 9:35 a.m.
The Zippo 200 takes the green flag on Saturday at 2:15 p.m., and the Cheez-It 355 at The Glen goes off Sunday at 1 p.m.
