Tickets for the 2001 racing season at Sears Point Raceway, including the Dodge/Save Mart 350 NASCAR Winston Cup, will officially go on sale to the public via telephone and internet on Monday, January 15.
Fans attending 2001 Sears Point events will enjoy significant improvements in seating, traffic access and circulation as the raceway unveils the first phase of its $35 million Modernization Plan. The comprehensive plan, which began last September and will be fully complete by 2002, will transform the raceway into one of the premier motor racing and entertainment venues in the world.
Some of the modifications fans can expect in 2001 include 34,000 Hillside Terrace Seats along the hillside above Turns 2-4 on the road course, a new 80-foot wide entrance gate that will accommodate up to six lanes of traffic and 32 permanent garages for competitors. There will also be a new system of shuttles and shade shelters for fan convenience.
The 2001 season at Sears Point Raceway will be highlighted by the 13th consecutive visit by the NASCAR Winston Cup series, June 21-24. The NHRA Winston Drag Racing Series will also return to Sears Point on August 3-5 for the Fram Autolite Nationals.
Other events for 2001 include:
1. Sonomafest (April 27-May 6), including AMA Vintage Motorcycles Days West (April 27-29) and the AMA Superbike Challenge, featuring the Chevy Trucks U.S. Superbike Championship (May 4-6).
2. Chrysler-Jeep Wine Country Classic Vintage Car Races (May 18-20).
3. NHRA Festival of Fire Drag Races and Fireworks (June 29-July 1).
4. American Le Mans Series Grand Prix of Sonoma (July 20-22).
