Homestead offers ticket deal
HOMESTEAD, Fla. (Oct. 2, 1998) Race fans have a chance at obtaining better seats for next season's inaugural NASCAR Winston Cup Series event at the Miami-Dade Homestead Motorsports Complex -- the Jiffy Lube Miami 400 -- if they act quickly to purchase premium reserved seats for the NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division Jiffy Lube Miami 300. The NASCAR Busch Series season finale is coming up Nov. 15 at the 1.5-mile South Florida oval.
The date has been set for the first NASCAR Winston Cup Series event in South Florida in more than 30 years -- Nov. 14, 1999 -- but before that highly-anticipated race comes to the line a red-hot NASCAR Busch Series point battle will move to Homestead.
Mike McLaughlin, who is third in the series point standings heading into Saturday's All Pro Bumper to Bumper 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, is the defending Bud Pole Award winner for the Jiffy Lube Miami 300. He'll be battling a couple of second-year drivers, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Matt Kenseth, for the title.
The price range for tickets still available for the NASCAR Busch Series finale is $30-65. Tickets in the top rows of the enlarged "Blue Grandstand," located above Turn 4, are still available for $65, but they are selling well, according to track spokesman J.J. O'Malley, who also said that Hurricane Georges had done "no damage" to the state-of-the-art facility.
Two-time and defending NASCAR Winston Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon was on hand at the speedway for a "beach side party" to announce the inaugural Jiffy Lube Miami 400.
The special deal is that tickets for the inaugural Jiffy Lube Miami 400 NASCAR Winston Cup race are being offered first to customers who have purchased advance tickets for any 1998 event at the speedway, including the Nov. 15 Jiffy Lube Miami 300.
The Miami-Dade Homestead Motorsports Complex is offering a three-event ticket for 1999, including the NASCAR Winston Cup Series, NASCAR Busch Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series events. It includes the combination event for the NASCAR Winston Cup Series and NASCAR Busch Series that will close the 1999 NASCAR Busch Series season.
Remaining tickets for the 1999 Jiffy Lube Miami 400 are expected to go on sale to the general public on Dec. 1, 1998; so fans are encouraged to take advantage of the availability of 1998 Jiffy Lube Miami 300 tickets now.
