1997 Daytona 500 Logo Introduced

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 4, 1996) -- Continuing to build a tradition that was established with the 1996 Daytona 500, Daytona International Speedway has unveiled an event-specific logo for the 1997 Daytona 500. "The growth and popularity of the Daytona 500 -- NASCAR Winston Cup's greatest event -- is tremendous," Daytona International Speedway President John Graham said in making the announcement. "Our '39th Annual' logo will add additional prestige to NASCAR's crown jewel, as well as lend conformity to all aspects of the event. The logo is consistent with our goal -- a new and exciting look each year to complement the world's greatest race -- the Daytona 500." The 1996 design was the first event-specific logo in the 37- year history of the Speedway. Like the '96 logo, the '97 version also includes a specific date for the event -- February 16, 1997. The '96 and '97 Daytona 500 logos were designed in-house by the International Speedway Corporation's (ISC) Graphics Department, led by Art Director Jerry Stanley. ISC is the parent company of Daytona International Speedway. Merchandise items carrying the new logo will be available for purchase later this summer by calling (800) 748-7467. Among the items that will be available are Daytona 500 T-shirts, golf shirts and hats. The items will also be available inside the "Pit Shop" souvenir and gift shop at DAYTONA USA, "The Ultimate Motorsports Attraction."
