Lapcevich Wins Fifth Straight Cascar Road Race

VANCOUVER, B.C., Canada (July 27, 2004) -- Jeff Lapcevich continued his recent strangle hold on road racing in the CASCAR Super Series when he won the Canadian Tire 100 on the temporary street circuit here.

Goodyear is the sole tire supplier for CASCAR competition, having designed and produced a tire specifically for the demands of racing in Canada.

It marked the fifth straight victory for Lapcevich in Series competition on road races or street circuits. He led all 35 laps after winning the pole. Still, owning the close nature of the competition, his margin of victory over runner up Don Thomson Jr. was just 2.954 seconds behind the winner at the finish.

Thomson challenged Lapcevich for the first 23 laps of the 35-lap race around the 12-turn track. Kerry Micks finished third, followed by Peter Gibbons and Scott Steckly.

Gibbons now leads the standings with 1,090 points, followed by Thomson, who has 1,075.
