Barrie, Ontario: Al Turner and his #76 Blue Streak Racing Team did exactly what they set out to do this weekend in the sixth event of the season on the Castrol Super Series schedule at the Toronto Indy by finishing in third place. This event represents the halfway point of the Super Series season and Turner's goal was to put the Blue Streak Intrepid on the podium and take over the point's lead, two goals that they happily achieved.
Turner was really pleased with his car during the late practice session on Friday afternoon and the team was looking forward to qualifying on Saturday morning. The session started out slow with a technical problem with the timing system on Turner's car. Then a front straightaway crash resulted in a shortened session but Turner was able to post the fifth quickest time on his final lap.
The Castrol 100 saw Turner quickly move into third position behind the #4 of Don Thomson Jr. and the #66 of Robin Buck. Turner would remain in third for all but four laps of the event. Late in the race, coming out of the final turn on the eleven-turn track on to the front straight Turner hit the wall hard. The right rear tire and the body were slightly damaged but Turner was able to continue on for a strong third place finish. A delighted Turner said after the race "We had a great car all weekend and I was confident we could run up front. If I hadn't of hit the wall late in the race we might have had something for Donnie. This event is just huge for us and I cannot thank Blue Streak and my team enough for everything they did to make this weekend such a success. I also want to thank all the fans for staying around late today to see us race. I was amazed at how full the grandstands were all the way around the track. "
Blue Streak-Hygrade Motor Products enjoyed a terrific weekend while hosting associates from across Canada in their pit suite as well as raising funds for their charity of choice -- The Rick Hansen Institute.
Podium finishers included 1. #66 Robin Buck in the UAP Napa Auto Parts Pontiac 2. #4 Don Thomson Jr. in the Home Hardware Chevrolet 3. #76 Al Turner in the Blue Streak Intrepid.
Turner heads into the seventh event on the Castrol Super Series tour at Autodrome St. Eustache on Saturday July 28th as the series points leader.
