BARRIE, ON: The Blue Streak Racing Team and Al Turner experienced tire problems early in the 150 lap event on Saturday night resulting in a twelfth place finish. Turner went into event seven of the Castrol Super Series at Autodrome St. Eustache in Quebec with a very slim one point lead in the championship standings over the second place team of #4 Don Thomson Jr.
During the early practice session Turner made several changes to his car and the team worked hard to get a good set up for the race. Drawing first spot for time trials is not advantageous and when they concluded the #76 of Turner was seventeenth quickest resulting in a trip to the final qualifier. The Blue Streak team again made some changes to the car and Turner was able to make some moves during the twenty-five lap event to finish third.
Turner lined up fourteenth for the start of the Auto Parts Plus 150 knowing that it was going to be difficult to get to the front but he felt he had a car that could do it. Early in the race the handling went away and Turner reported to his crew that he had a flat right rear tire. He stayed on the track but by the time the caution flew and they were able to pit they had lost a lap to the leaders. Turner then started to make his move back to the front to try and regain the lost lap but as he approached the leaders he got turned around by another car and was sent into the sand trap in turn one and two. It was two laps before he got pushed out of the sand and back on the track. When the checkered flag fell, Turner had worked his way back up to twelfth. "I guess a twelfth is good considering everything that happened to us tonight but we are still disappointed" said Turner. "The car was fast when we weren't fighting the flat tire but we just never got a chance to run up front at all tonight."
Al Turner and the Blue Streak Racing Team unofficially reside in third in the Castrol Super Series point standings just four behind the second place team of Kerry Micks and thirty five behind leader #4 Don Thomson Jr.
The next event for the Turner Motorsports/Blue Streak Racing Team will be at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres on August 3rd and 4th. This will be the first appearance by the CASCAR late models at this high profile road course event.
