LAPCEVICH SCORES TOP-TEN IN TIM HORTONS CHEVROLET
August 16, 2009. Jeff Lapcevich and the #23 Tim Hortons Chevrolet team came to Trois Rivieres, Quebec for the ninth round of the NASCAR Canadian Tire series looking to put their difficult season to this point in the rear view mirror and concentrate on strong finishes in the remaining events. After toughing out qualifying in a car that was slightly under powered Jeff Lapcevich battled through the field to claim an impressive seventh place finish.
During practice and qualifying for the race at Trois Rivieres the Tim Hortons Chevrolet Impala just didn't seem to have the raw horsepower the team expected from the car. "The motor sits a little differently on this road course car" said Jeff Lapcevich. So we made the decision to adjust that, and use a larger air filter to see if that helped" explained the driver.
Starting the 100km feature event Sunday afternoon in sixteenth place Lapcevich assessed the changes the team made to the car in the early going. "I liked the changes we made" surmised the driver. "The car really seemed to work well on long runs, we went backwards a bit at first but as the laps ticked away the car kept getting better and better" he added.
As the race progressed Lapcevich began to move the Tim Hortons Chevrolet forward gaining several positions. "There was a lot of guys pretty aggressive out there at first and I don't know if they used there stuff up but after the changes we made on a long run the car was really good and we kept moving up" he added.
In the closing laps Jeff had put the Tim Hortons Chevrolet solidly inside the top-ten and hoped to gain several more spots as the race wound down. "I didn't want to see those last couple of cautions" said Lapcevich afterwards. "I think we were holding our own and everyone else was sorta backing up and there was a group of cars we were coming onto and if it had stayed green we might have moved up a few more spots.
Jeff Lapcevich would take the checkered flag in seventh spot, after gaining a total of nine positions during the race. "All in all it was a good day I guess" said the driver after the race. I think there's still a bit more horsepower that we can find in the car and I think we'll be able to do that before the next race in Montreal" he added.
Jeff Lapcevich and the Tim Hortons team head to Circuit Gilles Villeneuve for the next event on the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series calendar on Sunday August 30th as part of the Nationwide series weekend.
