DEREK WHITE FIGHTS MECHANICAL PROBLEMS
July 17, 2010. Derek White and the #99 DPW/OCR Gaz Bar Race Team hoped to have the mechanical issues that hampered their performance behind them as they arrived in Toronto for round number four of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series this past Saturday night. Unfortunately the day turned into a battle looking for engine gremlins that t the Toronto Indy this past weekend.
Sadly right from the first practice session the #99 DPW/OCR Gaz Bar Race Team battled several different problems that would eventually end their day early.
As practice began a problem on track sent the teams back to pit lane until the incident cleared and unfortunately for the #99 DPW/OCR Gaz Bar Race Team they would stay there for the remainder of the session. "When we got back to the pits the car was overheating" said White. "So that was the start of our troubles" he added.
Unfortunately for White and the #99 DPW/OCR Gaz Bar Race Team it wouldn't be the end. During qualifying White was unable to get full power from the car. "I came into pit lane after only a couple of laps" said the driver. "I knew that there was something wrong in the motor so there was no sense in making it worse" he added.
The #99 DPW/OCR Gaz Bar Race Team worked late into the night to install a new engine for the race. By rule because of the switch they were relegated to starting at the back but hoped to use the 100km race to help them moving forward this season. Sadly more trouble found them as this time the clutch was the culprit. "I'm just really frustrated" said White.
Derek White and the #99 DPW/OCR Gas Bar Team are scheduled to race next Sunday July 25th as part of the Edmonton Indy weekend.
