STECKLY EARNS THIRD PODIUM OF YOUNG SEASON
Vernon British Columbia (Sunday July 19, 2009): The 22 Racing/Canadian Tire/Tow Truck in a Box team finished second at Sun Valley tonight for the third time in three attempts. Steckly was one of only two cars to finish on the lead lap, the other being winner Andrew Ranger.
Steckly's No. 22 Dodge Avenger was scored in the top ten during practice but a late arrival to technical inspection prior to qualifying had them penalized and only allowed one time trial lap. "We decided to make some changes to the car after practice as we weren't quite where we wanted to be. We arrived at tech about two minutes late along with four other cars and we were all given only one lap of qualifying."
The A & W 300 started with Ron Beauchamp Jr. on the pole and he would hold the top spot until the first third of the race was in the books. Steckly continued to edge his Canadian Tire entry closer to the front and with only a few caution flags the lead lap cars dwindled in numbers. With less that 20 laps to go Dilley who was following the two leaders in third ran out of fuel and a spin with less than four to go would give the fans the excitement of a green, white, checkered finish. Steckly lined up on the outside of Ranger for the restart but just couldn't made the pass and the No. 22 team crossed the line in second giving them their third podium finish in five events.
"The car was really loose all night long," said Steckly after the race. "We made adjustments but just couldn't get it to where I could get on the gas coming off the corner. I want to thank Canadian Tire, Tow Truck in a Box as well as A & W tonights sponsor and all the fans for coming out tonight. We always like coming to Sun Valley Speedway and racing in front of these great Western fans."
Andrew Ranger would win his first oval track NASCAR Canadian Tire Series race tonight and Ron Beauchamp Jr. finished third. D. J. Kennington & Kerry Micks rounded out the top five.
The 22 Racing Team now load up and head to Edmonton Alberta for the Edmonton Rexall Indy next weekend.
