VERNON, BRITISH COLUMBIA (July 18, 2009) -- Kerry Micks is off to a fine start on the three-week trip to the western Canada events of the 2009 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series.

Starting fourth in the A&W Cruisin' The Dub 300 at Sun Valley Speedway in Vernon, British Columbia, the driver of the Beyond Digital Imaging Ford placed fifth in the fast-paced 300-lap race.

"We had a good weekend overall," noted Micks, who is from Mount Albert, Ontario. "It was a fast-paced race. There were only three cautions, which made for some long green flag racing."

The event, held on a paved half-mile oval track, was race five on the 13-event national stock car tour for 2009.

Micks and his team had made some suspension adjustments prior to the race, and were not satisfied with the changes once the event began. But with so few caution periods, the team was hard-pressed to make any adjustments during the race.

But overall the former CASCAR Super Series champion and multiple race winner in the NASCAR Canadian Tire series was pleased with his race in British Columbia and hopes the trend continues.

"If I get three top five finishes while I'm out here I'll be happy."

The Sun Valley race was the first of three in western Canada for the Micks Motorsports Team.

The next stop is Edmonton, Alberta as part of the Rexall Edmonton Indy weekend on the 1.96-mile airport road course, and then it's off to Saskatoon at the Auto Clearing Motor Speedway for July 29 before returning east.

Micks also mentioned he would like to thank Ranchland Ford in High River, Alberta for its involvement and help with providing a support vehicle for the team while in Alberta.

Going into this weekend's Rexall Edmonton Indy race, Micks is presently fifth in the series points standing, with three top-five finishes.
