Steckly Loses Motor At Mosport
Stratford, Ontario: Scott Steckly and the #22 AW Millwrights/Erb Group Pontiac Team experienced motor difficulties almost from the start of the fourth event on the Castrol Super Series tour on Sunday at Mosport International Raceway. The motor expired early in this the first road course event of four this year and they were forced to watch the remainder of the race from the pits.
Steckly arrived here set to qualify in only his third CASCAR road course event and proceeded to post faster and faster times every time out. After the two, thirty-minute qualifying sessions were complete on Saturday, Steckly had put the AW Millwrights/Erb Pontiac on the grid in the fourteenth position.
Steckly's usual patient style would normally be a bonus on this physically and mentally challenging track. Unfortunately he never got to use the strategy as on lap three of the 'Blue Streak presents the Mosport 250' the 22 Pontiac lost a cylinder and on lap twenty-eight the motor expired completely. Steckly said after the race "We are really disappointed as this was a new motor. I was getting more comfortable with every lap we ran here this weekend and I felt we could have had a top ten finish. This will really hurt us in the point standings."
Steckly and his AW Millwrights/Erb Group team have fallen to eleventh in the Castrol Super Series point standings but hope to gain some positions back when they head to the next event on the tour - The Budweiser 150 at Kawartha Speedway on Sunday July 1st.
Podium finishes were 1. D. J. Kennington in the Castrol Intrepid 2. Jim Lapcevich and 3. Kerry Micks the current point leader.
