Steckly Kawartha race notes

Stratford, Ontario: The ...

Stratford, Ontario: The #22 AW Millwrights/Erb Group Pontiac team of Scott Steckly had high hopes for their new car when they unloaded it Sunday for the Budweiser 150 at Kawartha Speedway but managed only a sixteenth place finish. The Steckly team finished assembling this car, which is to become their oval car, just in time for the fifth event on the Castrol Super Series tour at this new to CASCAR facility located just outside Peterborough.

Steckly and his team worked continuously through the rain delayed practice session attempting to get a set up under the car that was comfortable. When time trials were completed the #22 AW Millwrights/Erb Pontiac had posted the fourteenth quickest time of the twenty-seven competitors who were in attendance. Steckly was reasonably happy with the result as they picked up almost another tenth of a second from their practice times.

The race started out with Steckly looking to find his groove and set his own pace, which he did early. The #22 Pontiac never felt just right to Steckly and on lap 43 during a caution they took the opportunity to make a pit stop to make adjustments. Nothing they did seemed to affect the car in a positive way and by lap 85 they were down one lap to the leaders. Steckly crossed the finish line in 16th one lap down. A disappointed Steckly said after the race "My crew worked really hard today but we just couldn't get the car to where we wanted it. We go back to the road course car in two weeks for the Toronto Indy event but we will work on this new car some more so we have it ready to go for St. Eustache at the end of the month."

Steckly and the 22 Racing Team is currently in a tie for twelfth place in the Castrol Super Series Point Standings.

The next event for the #22 AW Millwrights/Erb Group Team is at the Molson Indy as the CASCAR teams take to the streets of Toronto on Saturday July 14th. Steckly posted a career best road course finish here last year with a 13th after a first lap crash had him lined up in 30th for the restart.
