LONDON, ON - CASCAR and Kawartha Speedway jointly announced today that the final event of the 2004 CASCAR Super Series and CARQUEST Series Championships will take place at Kawartha Speedway, near Peterborough Ontario, on September 17, 18, and 19. The event was originally scheduled to be held at Cayuga 2000 Speedway near Hamilton Ontario.

Kawartha Speedway is a 4/10 mile, progressive-banked oval that has been host to two CASCAR Super Series events in the past. The September 17th event will be the first visit to the facility for the CARQUEST Series. The wide, smooth track allows plenty of two-wide action and has produced exciting racing at past events. With a very tight points battle in both the Super Series and CARQUEST Series Championships, the racing should prove to be the most exciting yet with Champions to be crowned in both series'.

Cayuga 2000 Speedway has been host to two CASCAR events in 2004, and CASCAR and Cayuga 2000 Speedway management state that they will continue to work closely together to create successful CASCAR events for the 2005 season.

"When both CASCAR and Garry Evans from Cayuga 2000 Speedway became aware that holding the final event of the 2004 season at Kawartha Speedway was a realistic option, we began to discuss the possibility that our resources may be put to better use working on our 2005 CASCAR events at Cayuga 2000 Speedway", stated CASCAR president Tony Novotny. "We are delighted with the partnership we shared with Cayuga 2000 Speedway this season, and we look forward to continuing that partnership in the future. The re-scheduling of this event to Kawartha Speedway is in no way an indication that CASCAR and Cayuga 2000 Speedway will not work together for the 2005 CASCAR season, but the added diversity of adding a new track to the 2004 schedule, and the ability to focus our efforts at Cayuga towards next season just made sense."

"I am pleased with our decision to move the September CASCAR event to Kawartha Speedway," stated Cayuga 2000 Speedway president Garry Evans. "Cayuga 2000 Speedway has always worked to support CASCAR, and we agreed it was good for the sport to have Kawartha Speedway back on the schedule. We are already working with CASCAR to create great events for the 2005 season."

With just four races to go in the CASCAR Super Series the top five drivers are separated by only 83 points, and with only two events remaining the CARQUEST Series has the top five competitors separated by only 51 points. The intense Championship battles in both series' will mean that the Champions will likely be crowned at Kawartha Speedway during the final event of the year.

"Kawartha Downs is looking forward to the event, and are pleased to have re-kindled our participation with CASCAR for the September event, and for many years to come," commented Skip Ambrose on behalf of Kawartha Downs. "We wish to extend many thanks to CASCAR for the support we have received from them and their participating teams, sponsors, and staff."

"We are delighted to hold our final event of the 2004 season at Kawartha Speedway," stated CASCAR director of marketing Richard Coughlin. "The facility is first class, and Kawartha has created many exciting programs for our fans and sponsors to enjoy over the weekend. The intense Championship battles combined with the added excitement of horse racing and the Race Track Slots facility will make this a terrific weekend for everybody."

The CARQUEST Series race will be held on Friday September 17th, with time trials kicking off at 7:00 pm, and the 100 lap feature race at approximately 9:00 pm. Saturday September 18th provides the excitement of "Horsepower to Horses", with Super Series time trials at 12:30 pm and Harness Racing starting at 7:20 pm. Sunday is the big day, with the CASCAR Super Series 250 lap feature race getting under way at 2:00 pm.
