Record day for Ranger in NASCAR Canadian Tire qualifying
Sets track record and takes sole possession of series' career mark.
One record wasn’t enough for Andrew Ranger Saturday at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, so he decided to make it three.
Ranger, from Roxton Pond, Quebec, captured the pole for Sunday’s NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 race with a fast lap of 83.261 seconds (106.321 mph) in the No. 27 Mopar/Exide Dodge. The lap set the series’ track record – previously held by J.R. Fitzpatrick at 83.286 (106.289) – and also extended Ranger’s mark for the most poles at CTMP to five. To top things off, it was Ranger’s 15th career pole overall, which broke a tie for the series’ all-time record he previously shared with Fitzpatrick.
He’s now earned the pole in five of his eight career Canadian Tire Series starts at the 2.459-mile road course.
Fitzpatrick, who won the spring race at CTMP, will join Ranger on the front row for Sunday’s Pinty’s presents the Clarington 200 thanks to a fast lap of 83.597 (105.894). Marc-Antoine Camirand was third-fastest at 83.771 (105.674).
The rest of the top 10 qualifiers out of the 31-car field included defending race winner and season points leader L.P. Dumoulin, D.J. Kennington, Scott Steckly, Jeff Lapcevich, Robin Buck, Kerry Micks and Alex Tagliani.
Sunday’s Pinty’s presents the Clarington 200 is scheduled to take the green flag at 10 a.m. EDT.
