Thomson and Buck win Mosport CASCAR qualifiers

BOWMANVILLE, ON (August 29, 1998) Qualifying was held on Saturday afternoon at Mosport Park for the UAP/NAPA Presents Canadian Auction Group 300 km road course event on Sunday. It's been seven years since the CASCAR Castrol Super Series cars last raced at the legendary road course circuit, but apparently, Hamilton's Don Thomson Jr. hasn't forgotten his way around the up-and-down track. The Chevy driver started on the pole in the first of two, 25-minute qualifying heat races and led throughout for the win. Thomson won CASCAR's last race at the Mosport circuit, back in 1991. In the second qualifying heat race, fast qualifier Robin Buck led from wire to wire for the win over Toronto's Scott Maxwell, a road racing specialist, who is taking part in his first-ever CASCAR outing. The UAP/NAPA Presents Canadian Auction Group 300km commences on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., following driver introductions, the autograph session and three other races, which are being run from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
