Turner Races To Third At Mosport
Barrie, Ontario: Al Turner in the #76 Blue Streak Intrepid followed up his win at Peterborough two weeks ago with a third place at Mosport on Saturday in the running of the National Fast Freight presents The Exide 250. Eventual winner Mark Dilley in the #64 NTN Bearings Taurus and second place finisher #17 D.J. Kennington in the Castrol Intrepid along with Turner had the fans in the grandstands on their feet during the final twenty laps. While Kennington was trying to make the move for the lead on Dilley, Turner was all over him. These three were also on the podium two weeks ago in Peterborough.
Turner arrived at the track hoping for a top five starting spot but settled for twelfth quickest time in time trials. The previous track record of 22.092 set by Peter Gibbons last year was not beaten by #33 of Neil Fair who notched the fastest time of the day with a 22.160.
The Exide 250 was increased by fifty laps over last years race. Turner knew that this would mean brakes would be an issue, so patience was the order of the day. When the caution flew after the 125 lap half way mark Turner made his stop for tires and fuel. The crew had a great stop and had the Blue Streak Intrepid back on the track quickly. Over the final half of the race Turner continued to pick off the cars in front of him. Turner said after the race "I wish the final ten or fifteen laps had of gone all under the green flag and maybe we would have had something for D.J. & Mark but with only running one or two laps at a time it was difficult. This third is still great for our team as we know consistency is what will put us in the hunt for the championship."
Unofficially Turner and the Blue Streak Intrepid team move into second in the National Super Series Point Standings.
The next event on the schedule is race #4 at Mosport International Raceway on the world-renowned road course on Saturday & Sunday, June 23 & 24th.
