Don Thomson Jr. Wins CASCAR Race at Mosport Speedway

BOWMANVILLE, Ont., Canada (Aug. 23, 2004) -- Don Thomson Jr., who has won the last three consecutive CASCAR Super Series championships, won his first race in more than two years when he captured the Mosport Speedway 150 at Mosport Speedway.

Goodyear is the exclusive tire supplier for CASCAR. The tiremaker developed a nine-inch wide tire specifically for the rigors of stock car competition in Canada.

Thomson's last victory came on Aug. 18, 2002, but his extraordinary consistency brought him three titles. He was consistent again at Mosport, leading 199 of the 200 laps around the half-mile paved oval. He started on the pole, his fifth pole in the nine races this season.

While he led virtually the entire race, Thomson's margin of victory was just .935 of a second over runner-up Mark Dilley.

D.J. Kennington finished third, followed by Dave Whitlock and Jeff Lapcevich.

The finishing order tightened the championship standings with three races remaining in the season. Thomson leads with 1,550. Peter Gibbons, who led lap 97 at Mosport before finishing ninth, is now second with 1,539 and Whitlock is third with 1,527.
