SIXTH TOP-FIVE FINISH OF THE YEAR FOR DJ KENNINGTON IN THE CASTROL DODGE
August 2, 2008. On a weekend of double duty for DJ Kennington and the Castrol Dodge at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal it was another rock-solid finish in round seven of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series for the St. Thomas, Ontario driver.
Kennington spent the weekend shuffling between his Castrol Dodge and his #81 Nationwide series car that also sported Castrol colours for this Canadian stop. "This was part of our arrangement with Castrol and it's just been terrific" said Kennington.
During practice for the NASCAR Canadian Tire series race Kennington proved to be his usual consistent self. Finding the car to his liking DJ elected not to use up the car during the early sessions. For qualifying consistency again showed for the Castrol Dodge and Kennington would grab the eighth quickest time.
When the green flag waved again Kennington worked comfortably with the lead group of cars. "This track is so tough on brakes and tires we tried to save our stuff for the end, don't be too aggressive too early and look to put ourselves in a good spot near the end of the race". Kennington worked the plan to perfection gaining several positions and moved into the top-five. Several caution flags slowed the field and kept the competition close. "We were in good position and as we got late in the race I tried to make up some more ground".
Kennington had gained another position and ran fourth as the white flag waved for the final lap. The Castrol Dodge driver was looking for more heading into the hairpin turn for the final time and there was contact with the #02 car. Kennington was forced to let up briefly an unable to complete the pass before the checkered flag. "I got into the back just a bit so I had to give the #02 a chance to gather it back up. I don't want to punt somebody out of the way he added.
DJ Kennington has finished in the top five for six straight races in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series and sits third in the overall championship standings.
In his second event of the day Kennington took the green flag for the Nationwide series race from the 22nd spot and for the second time this season raced in the rain. Earlier this year on the Mosport Road Course Kennington finished second in the NASCAR Canadian Tire series event. After the race was red flagged due to weather Kennington was scored 27th.
