Labbe beats Ranger and Lacroix to pole at ICAR
CRS Express 300 winner Alex Labbe recorded his third pole of the season, beating Andrew Ranger and Kevin Lacroix, two previous ICAR winners, Saturday ahead of the Ecko Unlimited 100, in Mirabel.
“The car is great,” commented Labbé. “My two laps were almost identical. I’m surprised to be ahead of two road course experts. I’ll have to watch the tires tomorrow. I never thought I would beat the lap record by over a second!”
“It’s going to be a long race tomorrow,” added Ranger, who won at ICAR in 2014, 2013 and 2012. “Managing the restarts is going to be key. But I trust Alex Labbe. You can go side by side with him, he’s fair.”
2015 winner Lacroix will be third: “I won here last year without a single yellow. So it’s going to be interesting tomorrow. I’m not going to worry about the restarts. I know I have a good car, so I’m confident.”
Elie Arsenau and Gary Klutt completed the top-5, ahead of Alex Tagliani, Patrick Dussault, LP and JF Dumoulin and DJ Kennington.
Drivers will have to complete 30 laps of the 2.113-mile, 14-turn ICAR road course. The start is scheduled for 2:40 pm on Sunday.
