CASCAR Not Returning To Kawartha Speedway

LONDON, ON - CASCAR announced today that it will not be returning to Kawartha Speedway in 2004. The news comes as a surprise after Kawartha largely based their March 23rd press conference to announce their re-opening around CASCAR. They had the CASCAR Super Series machine of Brian Cathcart on display, and had driver Mark Dilley and series representative Richard Coughlin address those in attendance.

"It's a strange situation for sure," stated Richard Coughlin, director of sales and marketing for CASCAR. "They knew everything there was to know about hosting a CASCAR show long before the press conference. We've had a clear program on the table with them for months, and we met a week prior to the press conference to go over it once again. However, following the press conference we were advised that they had decided to take a different direction and would not be hosting any CASCAR events. It's particularly frustrating given the amount of time and effort CASCAR dedicated to helping them get the track open again."

The speedway has been closed since the beginning of the 2003 season, when a dispute with the local township caused management to close the track. Many people who follow CASCAR have expected they would return to the venue upon its return to business.

The good news is that the 2004 Super Series schedule has been set and will be released in the next two or three days.

"We've concluded negotiations with track promoters to fulfill our twelve race schedule," stated Coughlin. "I know everyone is anxious for us to release the schedule, and we will do that within the next couple of days."

CASCAR is Canada's premier motorsports sanctioning body, with 28 events held in Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia. Over 150 race teams across the country compete in CASCAR's three series': the CARQUEST Series, EMCO Western Series, and the Super Series.
