RANGER AND JACOMBS WRITE HISTORY IN PETERBOROUGH
PETERBOROUGH, ON: Sunday night at Kawartha Speedway in Peterborough, ON, the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series crowned their first champion - Andrew Ranger driver of the No. 27 Wal-Mart/Tide/Jacombs Racing prepared Ford Fusion. Ranger went into the event with a slim 41 point lead over second place D. J. Kennington, but early in the event Kennington was forced behind pit wall with a blown motor which sealed the deal for Ranger as they were the only two in contention.
A happy but reserved Dave Jacombs said after the race, "This is an incredibly awesome feeling. I am so proud of everyone affiliated with Jacombs Racing and I want to thank Pro Sports Management and all the great sponsors we have for giving us the tools to be able to do this. I am especially happy for those guys who have been with me for so long - some for over twenty years - they deserve this so much. We also have a really talented driver who helped make the job easier"
Ranger knew that if Kennington could win the race and lead the most laps he would have to finish sixth or better. Even with Kennington out, Ranger was determined to be in that top six by the time the checkered flag fell on the Dodge Charger 250 and he was.
Scott Steckly would win the event, followed by Peter Gibbons, Ron Beauchamp Jr., Derek Lynch and Dave Whitlock.
A whole host of No. 27 sponsors and fans were on hand to help celebrate the event as the champagne flowed.
The final event of the NASCAR Canada season will air on TSN on Saturday October 1st at 1:00 p.m.
