Sunday July 23, 2000: Hamilton's Dave Jacombs in the #88 Speedy Auto Service/Raybestos Brakes Taurus finished the first National Event of the 2000 tour in fifteenth after experiencing tire difficulties all day.
The Speedy Taurus driver posted consistent top ten times during practice and the early qualifying session on Friday. Saturday's timed qualifying session saw Jacombs finish in sixth which lined him up 11th for the start of the Bumper to Bumper Classic 250 on Sunday.
Jacombs ran consistently in the top fifteen early in the race event. Around lap 35 of the 86 lap event, Jacombs experienced the first flat tire. This cost him a lap to the leaders. The Speedy Taurus continued to experience tire problems all day and an air gun failure added to their problems. Jacombs finished the 250-km event seven laps down to the leaders in 15th position.
Eight cars finished on the lead lap including Jacombs teammate #64 Mark Dilley in the NTN Bearing Taurus who finished 7th after starting 27th. Dave Whitlock in the #98 Ford Quality Care Taurus another teammate of Jacombs finished 16th.
Dave Jacombs and the #88 Speedy Auto Service team would like to thank special guests Adam Ledwon from Speedy Store # 811 and Rob Waffing from store 810 for joining them in the pits as official Speedy Auto Service crew members for the day.
The next event on the schedule for Dave Jacombs and the #88 Speedy Auto Service/Raybestos Brakes Taurus team is the Children's Wish Foundation Charity Event being held at Schanks in Calgary on Thursday July 26th and then on to the Mopar 500 race weekend at Race City Speedway also in Calgary.
