Jacombs Continues String Of Top Tens
Hamilton, Ontario: Dave Jacombs continued his string of top ten finishes with a sixth place performance in the Mac Tools 250 under the lights on his home track, Cayuga Speedway on Saturday night. The Speedy Auto Service/Dynomax Performance Exhaust driver posted his seventh top ten finish in nine events and continues to keep the top three in the Castrol Super Series point standings within sight as he currently sits in fourth.
Jacombs qualifying effort was again slightly off as they battled the set up on the car during the practice sessions. When the thirty-two cars completed time trials, Jacombs found himself qualifying in the thirteenth position for the start of the Mac Tools 250 later that night.
The Speedy Auto Service Taurus driver dodged several incidents early in the race to stay on the lead lap but a late race incident found him up against the turn three wall. Before Jacombs could get the car turned around and going again, the leaders went past and he was down one lap. They had nothing to lose, so they pitted for tires and came back out with fresher rubber than the competitors in front of him. On a later re-start Jacombs lined up on the inside of leader Al Turner. With his newer tires, Jacombs was able to pull out in front of Turner and when the caution flew again he was able to re-join the rear of the pack as the last car on the lead lap. During the final ten laps caution slowed the field twice, but Jacombs was able to move by several competitors to cross the finish line in sixth.
Podium finishers were former Jacombs team-mate #98 Dave Whitlock in 1st, #4 Don Thomson Jr. in second, who for the second week in a row has lost the lead on the final lap and 3rd also former team-mate #64 Mark Dilley.
The #88 Speedy Auto Service/Dynomax Performance Exhaust team now prepare for the western swing of their schedule with events in Calgary and Vancouver as part of the Indy event on the weekends of August 25 and September 1st respectively.
