Monday July 31, 2000: Dave Jacombs in the Speedy Auto Service/Raybestos Brakes Taurus finished the second event on the CASCAR National Super Series Tour in 18th position. Jacombs who lined up for the start of Mopar 300 in seventh was disappointed with the finish as the Speedy Taurus had run in the top six all day.
Practice on Friday saw Jacombs consistently posting second fastest time. The luck of the draw saw them pull the first time trial position so Jacombs was first on the track for the timed session where he posted a 17.993. This was good enough for 19th quickest and effectively lined them up 10th on the starting grid for the 100 lap-qualifying event later in the evening. Jacombs in the #88 Speedy Taurus quickly moved up positions and by lap 50 was running in 4th. After running as high as second, Jacombs finished the one hundred-lap event with a podium - third place finish.
The feature event - the Mopar Parts 300 on Sunday was run under very hot conditions and everyone expected heat to play a part in the outcome of this event. Jacombs lined up 7th for the start of the race and continued to maintain fifth or sixth place positions until their scheduled pit stop on lap 117 for tires and fuel. On lap 124 the right front tire went flat and Jacombs was forced to pit the Speedy Taurus under green flag conditions resulting in a loss of two laps. Upon returning to the track Jacombs was posting some of the quickest times of all competitors. On lap 267 with the leaders in sight and the possibility of gaining one of their laps back Jacombs experienced another flat tire. While attempting to change the tire it was determined that they also had an internal wheel problem and they were forced to park the Speedy Taurus for the day. Jacombs said after the race "It's unfortunate that two flat tires took us out of the race today because we had a great car that worked good all day."
Jacombs and the #88 Speedy Auto Service/Raybestos Brakes Taurus team remain in the top ten in the National Super Series Point Standings - unofficially 9th. Team-mate Dave Whitlock in the #98 Ford Quality Care Taurus finished fourth and is unofficially in 8th in points while Mark Dilley in the #64 NTN Bearings Taurus finished 6th and is currently just out of the top ten.
Dave Jacombs would like to thank special guests Serge St. Louis and Cliff Brownie for joining the Speedy Team for the race on Sunday. Serge and Cliff are both from Speedy Auto Service Store #808 in Calgary.
The next event on the schedule for Dave Jacombs and the Speedy Taurus will be at Autodrome St. Eustache, PQ on Sunday August 6th. This is the final Eastern Super Series event for 2000 and Dave Jacombs is currently in third place in the point standings.
