Dave Jacombs in the Speedy Auto Service/Dynomax Performance Exhaust ...
Dave Jacombs in the Speedy Auto Service/Dynomax Performance Exhaust #88 Taurus comes away from the first event on the 2001 CASCAR Castrol Super Series - Chase for the Cup tour with a seventh place finish. Jacombs qualified in the fifteenth spot with a time of 19.945 -- more than half a second slower than his Delaware Speedway CASCAR track record time of 19.343 which he set last year at this same event. Not even eventual pole sitter and former teammate Dave Whitlock could touch Jacombs record time from last year. Pole speed for this Mopar 250 event was none the less a very quick 19.499.
Jacombs strategy called for biding his time and trying to be in a position to go for the front at the end. At the 220-lap mark they were running in third -- just where they wanted to be when a tire started to go down. Luckily for the Speedy Team a caution came out at the right time and they were able to dart into the pits for a quick tire change. Jacombs commented, "We were in the position we wanted to be with thirty laps to go. This Speedy car was awesome on long runs and we felt that if it stayed green for the rest of the way we might have had something for eventual winner Kerry Micks at the end. Bad luck for us when the right front started to lose air pressure but we'll take this seventh place and head on to Peterborough."
Dave Jacombs and the #88 Jacombs Racing Team would like to thank all the staff at the Speedy Auto Service location in London at 1800 Dundas Street for their hospitality on Friday.
The next race event on the agenda for the #88 Speedy Auto Service/Dynomax Performance Exhaust team is at Peterborough Speedway on Saturday May 26, 2001.
