THOMSON JR. WINS CASCAR RACE ON MOSPORT ROAD COURSE

MOSPORT, Ontario, Canada (June 19, 2005) -- Don Thomson Jr. led 41 of the 51 laps and won the Clarington 200 for the CASCAR Super Series at Mosport International Raceway. The 10-turn, 2.459-mile course gave the Series drivers a unique challenge.

Goodyear is the exclusive tire provider for CASCAR racing. CASCAR is the most extensive and prestigious stock car sanctioning body in Canada.

Thomson is the defending series champion with a total of four titles. His last win Mosport came in 1991. He started on the outside of the front row and led the first 16 laps. After a round of pit stops, Thomson retook the lead on lap 26 and held the top spot the rest of the way. Still, his margin of victory was a slim .619 of a second.

Jeff Lapcevich finished second and J.R. Fitzpatrick was third, followed by Peter Gibbons and Jim Lapcevich.

Gibbons started on the pole, having set a track record in qualifying. His time trial record is 102.71 mph.

The next race for the CASCAR Super Series is scheduled for July 3 at Barrie Speedway.
