It was a day of learning and one he won’t soon forget for Gary Klutt. The former NASCAR Next driver started his first Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at Watkins Glen International, finishing in a very respectable 31st, driving the No. 15 Premium Motorsports entry.

“It was a great being able to climb in the car, get some experience and run the whole race clean at WGI,” said Klutt following the race. “I wish we could have had a few more cautions to get a chance to work on the car some, but all in all it was a good day, running top 15 lap times for good portions of the first two stages. Being able to adapt to the changing car and finding the right adjustments is just something that will come with more race experience.”

Klutt qualified 34th for the race and finished one lap down in the final standings after the quickest race in the series this season ended in just over two hours with just 8 yellow flag laps.

“It was definitely a new experience for me driving the cars with more horsepower, bigger brakes and radial tires,” Klutt added. “We had a vibration in the car and we couldn’t get it figured out but to come home where we did was a good foundation for me.”

Klutt stated that he doesn’t plan on competing in any more Cup Series events this year, but his partnership with Premium Motorsports might not be over this season.

“We’re talking about putting something together to run the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race in September as part of the NASCAR Pinty’s Series weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park,” Klutt added. “We hope to have something definite to announce in a few weeks concerning that race.”
