Suspension woes keep Kerry Micks out of contention in Edmonton; BDI Ford off pace during Canadian Tire 100 in round six of NASCAR series
EDMONTON, ALBERTA (July 26, 2009) -- Round two in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series western swing was not a fruitful venture for series regular Kerry Micks.
Driving the Beyond Digital Imaging Micks Motorsports Ford Fusion, the Mount Albert, Ontario driver had suspension issues in the Canadian Tire 100 at the Rexall Speedway in Edmonton, Alberta.
Micks, who qualified eighth in the 21-car field for the race, held on the 1.973-mile temporary road circuit at the Edmonton Airport, was racing up with the leaders when a suspension part let go, and he finished 19th.
"It was just one of those deals," mentioned Micks after the race, which was round six in the 13-event national series. "We were running fourth or fifth and then broke a lower control arm with only six or seven laps to go."
Micks completed 27 circuits of the 32-lap race, the second of three NASCAR Canadian Tire Series races in Western Canada. He placed fifth in the Sun Valley event in Vernon, British Columbia the previous Saturday.
He remains fifth in the Championship Point Award Series standings at the half-way mark of the 2009 season.
Next event is the Velocity Prairie Thunder at the Auto Clearing Motor Speedway July 29, on the third-mile oval outside of Saskatoon. It is the first time a race of this caliber has been held at the facility.
"Once again I want to thank my crew, and my sponsors, who have allowed me to compete," Micks said after the Edmonton race. "I also want to again thank Paul and the folks at Ranchland Ford in High River (Alberta) for their generosity in supplying us with a support vehicle while we have been out here."
Before Micks and the team get ready to take to the Saskatoon track this coming Wednesday night, the team will be involved in several promotional activities before the 250-lap race, including three showings in Saskatoon this coming Tuesday.
