Rain cancels qualifying for the CASCAR CARQUEST 200 at NBIS

FREDERICTON, NB (September 12, 1998) - Steady rain showers washed away Saturday's CASCAR Castrol Super Series East program at Fredericton's New Brunswick Int'l Speedway. Therefore, the time trials and qualifying heat races that will set the grid for Sunday's CARQUEST 200 have been rescheduled for early Sunday morning. Sunday's 200 lap race is the eighth and final Eastern series event of the season and will determine the 1998 champion. Ron Beauchamp Jr. of Windsor, ON holds a narrow points lead over defending National champion Dave Whitlock, of Petrolia, ON, who sealed up his third National crown, last weekend, in London, ON.

Sunday's CARQUEST 200 will feature 31 drivers in its starting field, including Maritime stock car star Scott Fraser, of Shubenacadie, NS. The MASCAR dominator will be taking part in his first ever CASCAR race, driving one of Whitlock's Team Taurus cars.

Time trials for the CARQUEST 200 will begin at 10 a.m. on Sunday, with CASCAR heat races, the driver autograph session and introductions to follow. The green flag is scheduled to fly for the 200 lap feature at 2:00 p.m.
