Monday August 7, 2000: Newmarket’s Derrick Tiemersma in the #67 Barrie Performance Fuels Pontiac Grand Prix finished a strong ninth in this the final Eastern Super Series event on the 2000 schedule. Tiemersma who has made limited CASCAR appearances this year due to funding continues to post consistent finishes while personally financing the endeavour.
The #67 Pontiac driver likes St. Eustache and has had success at this facility in the past continued to show the same form here yesterday. The early time trial qualifying session did not go quite as Tiemersma would have liked. Tiemersma lined up on the outside of the front row of his heat race and made a valiant effort to pass pole sitter Brad Jacques on the outside on this hard to pass on track. The fans were on the edge of their seat for the first half of the ten-lap event as Tiemersma continued to jockey back and forth for the lead with eventual winner Jacques. Tiemersma settled for second but felt that he had a good car going into the 200-lap event.
The Barrie Performance Fuels :Pontiac lined up 16th on the grid for the start of the Autopro 200. Tiemersma dodged some early race incidents and continued to save the tires even dropping back positions in the early going. At the half way point Tiemersma was just inside the top twenty but was saving the car for later in the race. By lap 150 Tiemersma was in to twelfth and over the final five laps due to some other on track incidents the #67 team moved into ninth place.
While the Tiemersma Motorsports team are not competing for points this year they hope to take part in the final two National events in Ontario for what they consider to be practice for a full assault on the Eastern & National championships in 2001 should sponsorship be put in place.
