MONTREAL, QC - After becoming CASCAR's 'ironman' just one week earlier at Cayuga Speedway, veteran Castrol Super Series driver Kerry Micks collected his 10th career victory, on Saturday night, at Montreal's Autodrome St-Eustache. Micks, driving the Ford Fast Lane Taurus, lined up third in the field of 31 starters for the AutoPro UAP/NAPA 150 at the 2/5-mile, flat oval. The Mt. Albert, ON racer avoided a lap 1 incident that sent the drivers at the front of the field scrambling to recover as the pack entered turn 3. During the pre-race warm-up laps, a car at the rear of the field spewed oil as it circled in anticipation of the green flag. The lubricant turned portions of the racing surface into a slippery, treacherous trap. As the leaders came around for the first green flag lap, the oily mess triggered chaos among the front-runners, which allowed Micks to slip through to the front of the field by the end of the first lap. After that, the former champion never looked back, and at the end of 150 laps, finished ahead of polesitter Don Thomson Jr. and the resurgent Dave Jacombs. Al Turner, who won the first two CASCAR Castrol Super Series East races of the season, started second but clipped the wall during the lap 1 melee. He finished 26th.

Race Notes: Heat race victories during qualifying for the AutoPro UAP/NAPA 150 went to Mark Dilley, Robin Buck and DJ Kennington. Three-time National champion Dave Whitlock won the 'Fast Qualifiers' heat. Don Thomson's Home Hardware Chevrolet earned the pole with a lap of 18.009 seconds, which was a new lap record for the Super Series cars at St-Eustache.

Next event: The CASCAR Castrol Super Series East is back in action next Saturday (June 17) at Mosport Int'l Speedway, near Oshawa, ON, with the Exide Batteries 200. <pre> CASCAR Castrol Super Series East Results: AutoPro UAP/NAPA 150 / June 10, 2000 Round #3 / Autodrome St-Eustache / Montreal, QC
