SUNDAY JUNE 25, 2000: Barrie, Ontarios' Al Turner in the #76 Blue Streak Intrepid made it three for five early in this CASCAR 2000 Rollin' Thunder Tour. Turner, who started on the outside front row for the CARQUEST 200 at New Brunswick International Speedway, just outside Fredericton played a cool waiting game to bring home the checkered flag in this 200-lap feature event.

fter crashing the car badly the previous week at Mosport, the Blue Streak Team worked long days to put the #76 Intrepid back together so Turner could head east on Wednesday to do shows fCARQUEST, the race sponsor in Woodstock and Sussex New Brunswick.=20

During practice and qualifying, Turner was pleased with the car and set quick time with a 14.097. Two cars later the #1 Canadian Tire entry of Peter Gibbons posted what as to be the quickt time of the day with a 14.022. A happy Turner said after qualifying "With what we have been through the last two weeks we arppy with the second fastest time. It will be a challenge to get down to the inside groove on the start as this can be a difficult track to run on the outside but we will just take whatever happens."

During several early cautions Turner would lined up beside the #1 Canadian Tire Chevy but was fortunate enough to be able to drop wn to the bottom groove in front of the #98 Ford Quality Care Taurus of Dave Whitlock. Tires were expected to be an issue in this 200-lap event and they did prove to affect the outcome. After the half way point it appeared that Gibbons was having problems with the right front tire as it was smoking badly. An elated Turner said after the event, "We were trying all day to keep the tires under this Blue Streak Intrepid and we knew if we could do that we might have something for Peter at the end. My spotter informed me that Pete's right front was smoking so I just stayed close and bided my time." On lap 161 Gibbons slipped a little high coming out of turn two and Turner pounced. He was running door to door with Gibbons by the time they went into turn three. Turner went on to lap the entire field except the second place car of Gibbons and eventual third place finisher Scott Steckly.

Highlights of the weekend for the #76 Blue Streak team include, setting second fastest time and starting on the front row, winning the third event in 2000 for team sponsors Blue Streak and Mopar and race sponsor CARQUEST. Also thanks to the generosity of the CARQUEST show guests and the race fans at the track over $500.00 was raised for the New Brunswick chapter of the Children's Wish Foundation.=20

The next event on the schedule for the #76 Blue Streak Intrepid team is the Autopro 150 at Autodrome Chicoutimi, Chicoutimi, PQ on Sunday July 2.
