Sunday June 11, 2000: Barrie's Al Turner in the #76 Blue Streak Intrepid finished a disappointing 26th after qualifying second fastest for the UAP Napa/Auto Pro 150 at St. Eustache on Saturday. Turner who started on the front row took the green and immediately passed the #4 Home Hardware Chevrolet of pole sitter Don Thomson. Entering turn three on the first lap unbeknownst to the competitors or CASCAR a back marker in the field had blown his motor taking the green flag and Turner got into the oil while leading the pack into turn three. The #76 Intrepid ended up into the wall doing considerable damage to the front end of the car and lost several laps in the pits for repairs. Turner came back out to finish the race but was several laps down in this caution plagued event.
The day started out with Turner continuing in top form when he timed at 18.136 just behind pole sitter Thomson who posted 18.009. Turner who is hot off of wins in the first two events on the tour - coming from the 34th starting position to take the win at Delaware in the Mopar 250 and from the 13th spot two weeks later at Cayuga in the Ford Quality Care 250 hoped for another front finish to maintain their points lead. Instead Turner now sits in third place in the points - 19 behind Thomson heading into the next event at Mosport.
The next event on the schedule for the #76 Blue Streak Intrepid team is the Blue Streak-Hygrade Motor Products company barbecue at their facility in Mississauga on Friday June 16 and then on to the Exide 200 at Mosport International Speedway June 17th.
