WHITLOCK READY FOR RETURN TO TROIS RIVIERES
Wyoming, ON Thursday August 3, 2006: Dave Whitlock and the #39 NTN-Bower/Griddly Headz/Nitrex Metal Technologies Dodge Charger team are geared up and ready for their return to Trois Rivieres this weekend. It has been five years since CASCAR competed at this event and two names still prominent today were at the front of the pack on the last lap of that event. Don Thomson Jr. led all but one lap, the lap that counted and Canadian Tire Chevy driver, Peter Gibbons took advantage of some last lap bad luck by Thomson to take the win.
Whitlock's then #98 Motorcraft Ford was quick right from the get go in CASCAR's inaugural Trois Rivieres event. Midway through final qualifying the Whitlock team were shown in first with the quickest time. Whitlock waited on pit road with his best set of tires on the car and nearing the end of the timed session they headed back out to try to make it back into the top spot. Unfortunately a brush with the wall caused some severe front end damage to the race car and while repairs were made, the car was never quite as quick again. They started the race in eighth and finished twelfth. "I really like the uniqueness of this track," said Whitlock. "Unlike other road courses, we go counter clockwise on this track with mostly left turns. I am really looking forward to returning to Trois Rivieres, as I recall the event was very well attended and the race fans are very enthusiastic."
Pierre Bourque will again be driving the #29 Whitlock prepared Charger at Trois Rivieres. His first race in CASCAR was two weeks ago in Edmonton where he started in 28th and finished in 25th. "I really enjoyed racing for Whitlock Motorsports at Edmonton and I'm really looking forward to my second CASCAR race with them in my DRIVING.CA/CANADA.COM/WORKING.COM/DOSE.CA Dodge Charger at Trois-Rivieres," stated Bourque. I raced Formula Atlantic and finished 8th here back in 1989. I'm looking for strong results in this race." Coming soon will be Pierre's Racing Page. Stay tuned.
The CASCAR teams will take to the track for their first practice at 10:50 a.m. on Friday, followed by another practice later in the day at 6:10 p.m. Qualifying will take place on Saturday at 10:35 a.m. and the CASCAR 100 km Feature event starts at 11:15 a.m. on Sunday.
The teams will then return to Ontario for an oval event at Mosport before returning to Quebec again for the Montreal Grand Prix with the ChampCars.
Unofficially the point standings are very close with less than ninety points separating the top ten. #84 J.R. Fitzpatrick shows a five point lead over second place #02 Kerry Micks and #22 Scott Steckly is just eighteen out of first. The #39 of Dave Whitlock currently sits sixth just fifty-five out of the top spot.
