Whitlock to promote awareness for Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada
Wyoming, ON: Dave Whitlock is pleased to announce today that his #39 Dickies/NMT Nitrex Dodge Avenger team is partnering with the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada for 2008.
"Given the fact that cancer has stricken my family numerous times, I am a keen supporter of any type of cancer detection," stated driver and team owner Dave Whitlock. "One goal of the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada is to inform men about prostate cancer testing, early diagnosis and early treatment. I am very honoured to be able to assist them in getting their message out to the male population in NASCAR."
The Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada is the leading national organization devoted solely to eliminating the threat of prostate cancer. Their mission is to raise funds for research into the prevention, treatment and cure of prostate cancer by engaging Canadians through awareness, education and advocacy. Since 1997, the Foundation has invested more than $17 million in research and public education initiatives. This includes current funding of more than $1 million each year in the most promising research at cancer centres across Canada.
"The challenge in educating men about the threat of prostate cancer starts with getting their attention in the first place," said Greg Sarney, Vice President of Corporate Development and Marketing for the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada. "By working with Whitlock Motorsports, we're appealing to men and their families through the popularity of NASCAR. It's our hope that our partnership will encourage men to consider their prostate health and talk to their doctors about regular screening starting in their forties. The Foundation is grateful for the opportunity to partner with Dave Whitlock in our work to end the threat of prostate cancer."
