Jacombs loses motor at Kawartha.
Peterborough, ON: It was another tough day at the office for Hamilton racer Dave Jacombs as his motor let go only a quarter of the way through the 200 lap Kawartha Racetrack Slots 200 today at Kawartha Speedway just outside Peterborough, ON.
Jacombs in the Speedy Auto Service/Dynomax Performance Exhaust Taurus started the day strong with a quick car in practice posting times in the top ten during the one-hour session. Time trials would also prove that the Speedy Taurus was good as Jacombs timed sixth quickest.
When the green flag flew for the start of the Kawartha Racetrack Slots 200 Jacombs quickly settled into fifth and by lap twenty-five he had passed former team-mate Mark Dilley and had his sights set on the front three who had quickly broken away from the rest of the pack. On lap 36 the caution flew for 2nd place points runner D. J. Kennington who lost a wheel on the back straightaway. While accelerating for the green flag on lap 43, Jacombs motor let go and he was done for the day. A disappointed Jacombs said after the race "We probably had today, the best racecar we have had all year. It was just running great and it was so responsive to the changes crew chief Randy Gray and I made to it. I am disappointed for all our sponsors, Speedy, Dynomax, FAG Automotive, Inroble Brakes and everyone on this team who has worked so hard." Jacombs finished the day in 30th position.
Finish: 1. Don Thomson Jr. 2. Al Turner 3. Ron Beauchamp Jr. 4. Robbie Thompson 5. Mark Dilley 30. Dave Jacombs
