Brad Graham wins CARQUEST Series season opener at Cayuga

HAMILTON, ON - The CASCAR CARQUEST Series kicked off its 2004 season at Cayuga 2000 Speedway on Saturday evening with the CARQUEST 100. Super Series veteran Brad Graham led the first two thirds of the race and recovered the lead with just three laps to go to take the win.

The Glencoe, ON racer showed the way for the first 61 tours of the 5/8-mile, Hamilton-area oval, but was overtaken by Carp, ON driver Steve Munro, on lap 62. Graham stopped for a new right-rear tire in order to improve the handling of his HB Material Handling Dodge, and that change made the winning difference.

Over the final third of the race, Graham was able to chase down leader Munro and with three laps remaining in the 100-lap affair, Graham recovered the lead with a late-race pass. At the finish, Graham came home 1.245 seconds ahead of Munro.

Finishing third in the race was CARQUEST Series veteran Andre Coursol, of St-Jerome, QC. Coursol ran a solid third throughout the majority of the Cayuga race en route to the podium result in his CARQUEST Chevy. Graham, Munro and Coursol were the only drivers who finished all 100 laps. The next CARQUEST Series race takes place June 19 at Mosport Speedway.
