Whitlock Captures Canadian Series Victory at Cayuga

NELLES CORNERS, Ontario, Canada (July 6, 2004) -- Dave Whitlock showed the Canada Day crowd why he is a three-time champion of the CASCAR Super Series when he won the Canada Day Shootout at Cayuga 2000 Speedway.

Goodyear is the exclusive tire provider for all CASCAR series. The Canadian sanctioning body uses a nine-inch wide Goodyear racing slick for the varied conditions at short tracks around that country.

Whitlock started 16th in the 33-car field and needed some time to chase the leaders down as they sped around the 5/8-mile Cayuga oval. Whitlock took the lead from Kerry Micks with six laps remaining in the 200-lap race, then pulled away from Micks to win by more than two seconds.

Micks, who also led for six laps, finished second. Peter Gibbons, who led 150 laps, finished third. Don Thomson Jr. and Pete Shepherd rounded out the top five. Shepherd started on the pole and led the first 38 laps.

Gibbons leads the Super Series standings with 804 points. Whitlock is second with 779.
