Monday June 5, 2000: Hamilton’s Dave Jacombs in the #88 Speedy Auto Service/Raybestos Brakes Taurus finished 17th in Sunday’s Ford Quality Care 250 event at Cayuga Speedway after another strong qualifying effort earlier in the day.

Jacombs who won the pole position at the previous event at Delaware two weeks ago, again started on the front row after setting the second fastest time of the day. The Speedy Auto Service/Raybestos Brakes driver’s time of 21.166 was one of 22 times that either tied or beat the old track record held by Steve Robblee.

The Ford Quality Care 250 race saw a second lap accident with held the field under caution for many laps. When racing resumed Jacombs experienced a flat tire due to the debris on the track from that earlier incident. The caution came out and the Speedy Taurus took on a new tire and returned to the rear of the starting field. Jacombs continued to charge to the front of the pack and by lap 100 was up to ninth. Pit stops for tires and fuel were then the order of the day and Jacombs returned to the track to take up the 12th position. The Speedy Auto Service Taurus battled to stay in the top fifteen after taking on a set of tires that just did not work. A late race accident in turn three put Jacombs down a lap and a 17th place finishing position was the result.

Jacombs said after the race “The car worked really well and we were able to move to the front early in the race but the last set of tires we put on were not good. The handling of the car just went away and it was a fight to keep it on the track but we’ll take this finish and move on to St. Eustache next week.”

The next event on the schedule for the Jacombs Racing/Speedy Auto Service/Raybestos Brakes Taurus will be the UAP Napa/Auto Pro 150 at Autodrome St. Eustache.
