MOPAR Parts Dodge racer earns podium finish in his Twin 100 race

CALGARY, AB - MOPAR Parts Dodge driver Ron Beauchamp Jr. finished 10th in the MOPAR Parts 300 at Calgary's Race City Motorsport Park following a spirited run at the high-banked, half-mile speedway this past weekend. Beauchamp lined up sixth for the start of the prestigious race and was running third, at lap 150, when the first of two flat tires impeded his progress to the front.

With his right-front wheel down to the rim, the Windsor, ON racer somehow kept his #60 MOPAR Dodge from hitting the concrete retaining wall and managed to stay on the lead lap. However, a second flat right-front tire, at lap 230, caused him to lose two laps to the race leaders. At the end of the MOPAR Parts 300, Beauchamp posted a respectable 10th-place result, considering the two flats that hampered his run.

The weekend did have its high points, though. After several strong practice sessions prior to Friday afternoon's time trial run, the MOPAR Parts Dodge suddenly experienced handling trouble during its timed qualifying laps. After time trials, the team worked to repair the condition, which meant Beauchamp had to go to the back of the field for his Twin 100 Qualifying Sprint Race. The decision to work on the car and accept the sanction was a good one, though, as Beauchamp battled his way from his 12th-place starting position and onto the podium with a stellar third-place result at the conclusion of the 100-lap chase.

"It's really too bad about those flat tires," said Beauchamp, following the weekend's feature race. "We had trouble during time trials but we figured it out and the car was flying by the end of the Twin 100 and in the MOPAR 300. Before the second flat tire, the car felt really good and I was thinking we had a great shot for another top finish in our sponsor's race. But that second flat was too much to overcome. That's part of racing, but that doesn't make it any easier to accept."

In all, the MOPAR Parts 500 Weekend in Calgary was a good one for the Beauchamp Motorsports team. The car, driver and crew received extensive media attention during the Pit Stop Competition in the downtown Eau Claire Market and made it clear to all that the team is a contender after their impressive outings in their Twin 100 and the MOPAR Parts 300.

As for the event itself, the MOPAR Parts 500 Weekend was a great success, once again. Two large crowds packed the grandstands at Race City, on Friday and Saturday, for two superb evenings of racing.

Following the eighth CASCAR Super Series race of the season, Beauchamp is in seventh place in the overall points with four races remaining. "We think we can do well in the last four races and we're looking forward to a strong end to the season," said Beauchamp, following the end of CASCAR's annual two-race western swing.

The CASCAR Super Series now takes a two week break in advance of Round #9 at the half-mile, Mosport Speedway on Saturday, Aug. 21.
