SIMONE FINISHES EVENT AFTER EARLY RACE TROUBLE
ANTIGONISH, NOVA SCOTIA (Sunday, September 20, 2009): Anthony Simone, driver of the No. 95 Crown Modular/United Lumber Monte Carlo, scored a 13th place result at the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Komatsu 300 at Riverside International Speedway this past weekend.
With rain showers washing out racing events on Saturday, the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series officials rescheduled all on track action for Sunday afternoon as the series and drivers looked to complete the 12th round in the 13 race championship series.
083-1.jpg After practicing his No. 95 Crown Modula/United Lumber sponsored Monte Carlo with the sixth quickest time, Simone managed to qualify in the tenth position and would start from the outside of the fifth row. With lots of laps and a fast car, Simone began to march his way to the front as he ran strong early in the race and would look to fight for a solid result.
Continuing to advance forward in the early race stages, Simone was collected in an incident on lap 20 when two cars came together in front of the No. 95. Simone would come to the pits and would lose several laps as extensive repairs were needed to ensure he could complete the race distance. By circulating the Riverside International Speedway, Simone would stay out of any further trouble and claim a 13th place finish.
"We were looking for a good day today," stated driver Anthony Simone at the end of the Komatsu 300. "Thatcher and Giulio had the car working really well in practice and we were at the top of the charts for a while. We are still looking for our first win and will try again next weekend at Kawartha."
The finishing order for the Komatsu 300: 1. Andrew Ranger 2. Jeff Lapcevich 3. Mark Dilley 4. Ron Beauchamp Jr. 5. Donald Chisholm
The Komatsu 300 will be broadcast on TSN on Saturday, September 26th at 2 p.m. EST.
Anthony Simone and the Simone Autosport team will now prepare for the final event in the 13 race NASCAR Canadian Tire Series at Kawartha Speedway in Fraserville, Ontario next Saturday, September 26th. For more information on tickets and schedule of events, please visit www.kawarthaspeedwy.com
