Andrew Ranger claims pole position for NASCAR Pinty’s race in Saskatoon

The eighth annual Velocity Prairie Thunder 250 will be the seventh of 12 events on the 2016 NASCAR Pinty’s schedule, and the lone trip to Saskatchewan and Wyant Group Raceway located near Saskatoon.

D.J. Kennington leads the active drivers of the series with two wins, while Louis-Philippe Dumoulin earned his first oval victory in this race in 2014.

Cayden Lapcevich set the fastest speed around the oval during the first practice session (14.717s) while Alex Tagliani was fastest in the second and final session (14.988s).

Lapcevich was quick on his qualifying runs, so was Kevin Lacroix. But Gary Klutt clocked both his laps under the 15-second mark. Shania LaForce was next but stopped on the track with an electrical issue. D.J. Kennington was next with laps in 14.948s and 14.893s, which put him to the top of the list.

Kelly Admiraal was also quick and emerged second fastest. Jason Hathaway was also quick and set the third fastest time. Mark Dilley was next and emerged second quickest. Alex Labbé took second place on his second flying laps and then Alex Tagliani set a very quick lap in 14.847s to capture first place.

But moments later, Andrew Ranger set a 14.657s good for the pole. Joey McColm moved up into second position.

So Andrew Ranger will take the start of the race on pole position ahead of Joey McColm, Alex Tagliani, DJ Kennington, Alex Labbe, Mark Dilley, Kelly Admiraal, Jason Hathaway, Gary Klutt, Cayden Lapcevich, LP Dumoulin, Kevin Lacroix, Nick Jewell, Noel Dowler, Jamie Krzysik, Kevin Poitras, Ian Admiraal, Jason Hankewich and Sania LaForce.

The race is scheduled for 250 laps (83.25 miles) tonight and will have a five-minute midway break at or near the conclusion of Lap 125.
