CHECA TO BID A FOND FAREWELL AT VALENCIA GRAND PRIX

The final race of 2008 in Valencia this Sunday will be a very special race for Honda LCR rider Carlos Checa. The popular Spaniard will be making his 192nd, and final, grand prix start in the premier class after a distinguished 13 seasons in 500cc and MotoGP competition.

In 2008 Checa will race in the World Superbike Championship but he hopes to finish his season with LCR squad on a high note. Checa made his 500cc debut on a Honda in the 1995 British GP and both his victories at the elite level came before adoring fans in his home country -- in the Catalunya GP (Barcelona-1996) and the Madrid GP (Jarama-1998).

Checa has raced in the 500cc two stroke class and both the 990cc and 800cc eras of four-stroke MotoGP. He was fourth in the 1998 world championship.

Meanwhile Eugene Laverty is also aiming for a strong finish to his rookie 250cc grand prix season.

CHECA: "Officially, this will be my last MotoGP race but you never know what will happen in the future. In any case, I want to finish this part of my career and the season with a good feeling for everyone -- the LCR team and all my friends and fans who will be at the circuit -- it will be a very special race for me. I like the Valencia circuit and we had a good pre-season test here. It's a track that doesn't rely on horsepower so much, so l'm aiming to end the season with a strong performance, definitely with a top ten result."

LAVERTY: "I like the Valencia circuit and I did a pre-season test here, so I know the track. I'm aiming for a top twelve result in my final race with LCR on a track where horsepower is not critical and finish the season on a high."
